Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
Yes, to connect it. MCP connectors require Developer Mode, which is only available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education. Free ChatGPT accounts cannot connect MCP servers. The List web app and every published list still work on any plan, with no connection at all.
What is Developer Mode, and is it safe to turn on?
It is the ChatGPT setting that unlocks the Connectors section so you can add MCP servers. OpenAI notes it is powerful, so only add servers you trust. You turn it on once in Settings, then add List under Connectors.
Do I need an account to try it?
No. Every list in the published library runs in your browser, timers and all, without signing in. You only need an account when you want to save lists of your own.
How does List connect to ChatGPT?
As an MCP connector. You add the server URL once and authorize it, and from then on ChatGPT can save lists straight into your account without you copying anything across.
Can ChatGPT read my lists back, or only write them?
Both. Once a list is in your account ChatGPT can query it for what is done, what is left and what changed since last time, then update it in place.
